What's for Dessert? Apple Dump Cake

Apple Dump Cake

Every one's favorite question at my house is "What's for Dessert?' This recipe is certainly not a new one, but well worth pulling out of the file for two reasons: 1) it is easy and 2) it has only 3 basic ingredients - OK, 3) it is delicious! Somewhere this week, I heard someone talking about dump cakes and was reminded so I decided to make it for dessert last night. I happened to have all the ingredients without making a Publix run, so that made it even better.

1 box yellow cake mix

2 cans apple pie filling (or any other pie filling)

2 sticks of butter

Spread both cans of apples on the bottom of a lightly greased baking dish. Sprinkle whole box of cake mix over the apples. Slice the butter and place pieces all over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until browned. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped topping. (We used ice cream!) A pretty serving dish makes it special!

Review from my husband:  "it's the best thing you have made in a long time"!

So... stock up - cake mix, butter and pie filling! Easy to have "on hand" for a spur of the moment dessert! Enjoy! Have a great weekend!
